BIO

Syed Ali Shah (American, B. November 19) is a contemporary visual artist currently working out of his studio in West Town, Chicago, IL. The son of first generation immigrants, Shah’s father is Pakistani and his mother’s family is from Guatemala. Despite growing up in a diverse household, Shah is not classically trained and considers himself an autodidact. Working with mixed mediums – Shah produces paintings, drawings, and prints at varying scales. Shah’s work mainly consists of abstract expressionism – raw shapes and figures that feel familiar yet unknown. Shah creates his work intermittently, often drawing from both subconscious and real time experiences. Although his work ideally lives in a home / physical environment, the aim of this platform is to curate Shah’s latest work digitally – giving access to viewers globally to experience the works. “Momentarily Here” is a metaphor for the impermanence of life and a fear of premature death before fulfilling one's artistic journey. This space represents real-time expression and will be a living and breathing gallery with new works being shared as they are realized.
